Favorite Cities in Canada (so far)

I’ve been to a bunch of different cities in Canada, but only a few hold a special place in my heart. I don’t know what it is about Canada, but I just keep wanting to go back. It might be because of how much nature there is to see and everyone is super friendly. Next year I want to rent a lake house somewhere around Ontario, preferably Lake Mississauga.

Banff. So I first went here as a birthday trip for my sister. I honestly can’t remember what had drawn us to Banff in general, but the pictures of the snow capped mountains was enough to make me go visit. Banff is what made me fall in love with mountains and I will now forever choose mountains over the beach any damn day. When arriving, we rented a car and took in the scenery. I believe it’s about an hour from Calgary to get to Banff. I was there for a total of five days.
We stayed at the Elk + Avenue hotel which is the cutest and aesthetically pleasing. My stops along the way (from what I can remember off the top of my head) were..

  • Lake Louise
  • Bear Street Tavern (the place that made me fall in love with honey on pizza)
  • Safeway in Canmore (For sandwiches and road trip snacks)
  • Banff Gondola Ride
  • Downtown Calgary
  • We saw a bunch of little lakes that I cannot remember, but we also saw some wildlife which was cool
  • Tunnel Mountain Drive
  • The road to Peyto Lake was closed due to avalanches
  • Johnston Canyon

Ottawa. It’s this little city and the capital of Canada. When arriving, I wasn’t expecting much as it was a stop along my road trip through Canada, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and need to plan another trip back. The downtown area is easily walkable and a quick trip to Parliament Hill. Every hour the guards come out and it was the coolest experience. My must sees…

  • Rideau Canal
  • Parliament Hill
  • National Gallery of Canada
  • Jacques-Cartier Park
  • Hog’s Back Falls
  • National War Memorial
  • Notre Dame Basilica
  • All the embassies and consulates
  • Also saw they not have canal cruise
  • Nando’s
  • Gatineau (small city right next to Ottawa)

Montreal. I’ve now been to Montreal a few times (winter + summer) and going back each time just feels like you’re in Europe. I would recommend…

  • Montreal Botanical Garden
  • Montreal Biodome (my favorite)
  • Notre Dame Basilica (2nd favorite)
  • Walk on St. Paul Street
  • Au Sommet (Observation Deck)
  • Eggspectation
  • La Belle et La Boeuf (Burger Bar + good option for lunch/dinner/nightlife)
  • Olympic Stadium
  • Old Montreal
  • Montreal Insectarium
  • Montreal Science Centre
  • Montreal Observation Wheel

Also, I hope everyone has a happy and safe Fourth of July!
