Day 8 (July 23, 2019): One week post surgery and he’s doing better than expected. My whole taking him outside only 1x or 2x a day has gone out the window. He is kind of over using the pee pads/being stuck in my room so he’s back to going outside to use the bathroom. He’s enjoying roaming the house again and is constantly letting me know that he HATES his cone. He likes to be held when sleeping, I guess because of the cone, but I’m trying to break him out of doing that. The swelling in his stomach has gone down significantly and the incision looks to be healing pretty good. His appetite is back to normal and he’s been sleeping throughout the night.
Day 9 – 10 (July 24th and 25th, 2019): There isn’t much to update on. He got his last set of pain meds on July 25th. I didn’t think he needed them anymore and the tech from the animal hospital wanted him to be done by Friday the 26th anyway. He also jumped off the couch when I was trying to get him ready to go outside. It all happened so fast. Everything still seemed to be in tact with the incision.
Day 11 (July 26th, 2019): I am so ready for his cone to cone off. My back pain from sleeping on the floor is slowly getting worse. Thankfully I’ve been putting heating pads on my back at work.
Day 12 – 13 (July 27th and 28th, 2019): Everything has been going really well. The only issue is him throwing up from the Keppra (seizure meds). He’s getting his staples out on the 29th, so I will ask them about it then. I try to make sure there is food in his stomach, but it still irritates his stomach.
Day 14 (July 29th, 2019): Today he got his staples out!! He won’t be able to get off any of his meds until he gets a new set of bile acids blood work done which will not be for another 6 weeks. I asked about the whole Keppra throw up situation and they recommend giving him 3-4 small meals throughout the day so there’s constantly food in his stomach to help with the counter act of the medication due to the acids in his stomach. We’ll test it out tomorrow and see how it goes.
