Book Club: September

Welcome back my book lovers! and for all the others, welcome!! It is officially mid-September and I am LOVING it. This time of year is my favorite and I can not be more excited for the beginning of fall. If you live somewhere where the weather changes drastically with the season (like we do) then you know that fall means sweaters, boots and lots of scarves, yay! This month has been super exciting for me because I’ve started school again! I’m slowly trying to get a good routine for school, work, cakes and blogging so forgive me and bare with me, I promise I’ll get a good groove soon. This month I’ve been reading Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.

I’m here to give you guys my honest truth and so here it is… I wasn’t crazy about this novel. It hurts so much to admit that because I seriously love books so much and to say I wasn’t crazy about it doesn’t mean I hated it either! There were certainly some points in the book where I couldn’t put it down but I was a tad bit disappointed at the end (&& I know not everyone can be satisfied with the way a book ends).

This book is about Eleanor, a misfit who is starting a new school and has a hard time making friends until a boy named Park slowly warms up to her. The book is based in 1986 and at the beginning I felt that the book started off kind of “slow”. Right off the bat, I couldn’t get myself to fall in the story like I normally do with books I love. I had a hard time relating to the characters and their personalities but as soon as Park and Eleanor really started sparking a relationship my whole heart was devoted (I’m such a hopeless romantic).

The authors way of writing was not my favorite at the beginning because to me it felt sort of forced. Getting past that allowed me to love basically the whole middle of the novel (lol). The portions that I enjoyed made me fall in love with the characters which is why I think the ending really disappointed me. I am not some outstanding book critic and this is just my opinion but, this book had its highs and lows with me.

At the end of the day I want to hear what you thought. Let me know if you’ve read this and maybe I just need to give it another try. Also, feel free to leave your best suggestions for my future reading adventures! I would love to hear some feedback and try out some of your favorites.

Until next time..
