College Going Away Gift For My Sister

As this post is going live, it’s been three days a little over two weeks since I dropped my sister off at college. She’s still going to school in state, but I never dormed for school and my parents never got to experience the whole “dropping your kid off for college” thing so this will be the first time. I chose commuting and being able to keep my former dog, than dorming. I still got to experience the dorm life when visiting friends, and to this day I still do not regret my decision. I know I’m not the easiest person to deal with and if I had to deal with someone being dirty, my bluntness would come out and I know it wouldn’t end well for anyone. haha

Now as for the gift, since it’s the first time my sister will be away from family for an extended period of time, I thought it would be nice for her to have 30 inexpensive-ish gifts to open for the whole month of September. Changed the idea, too pricey, I will be giving her small groups of gifts to open for the first four weeks she’ll be in school. Again, changed the idea. I thought it would be too much for her to remember each week to open the gifts, so instead I got a bunch of little things that I know she would need and she was able to open them during her own time. The only thing I told her was that she is only allowed to open the gifts once we leave. My budget was for each gift to be no more than $6 each.

Trying to figure out what I think she would need was a little difficult and some of the things I got her she ended up finding out about so she wouldn’t buy duplicates of the same things. Below are some of the things I bought…

  • Bandaids
  • Body Wash
  • Game (to play with roommates/friends)
  • Cleansing Brush
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Nose Strips
  • Nail Clippers/ File
  • Gum
  • Air Freshener
  • Pillow Case
  • Small Ceramic Pumpkin
  • Chapstick
  • Fall Garland
  • Felt Tip Pens
  • Small Lotion
  • Recyclable Bag (not only to hold the gifts, but to also use around campus)
  • Facial Wipes
  • Spot Cleaner (for clothes)
  • Card (wrote a little handwritten notes for her)

My sister enjoyed the gifts! Wrapping them was a little bit of a struggle, but I’m glad I ended up using a recyclable bag to hold the gifts in as it was easy to transport and then she could also use it for whatever she wants.
