If you’ve been anywhere on the internet lately, I know you’ve seen a hot chocolate bomb! Hot chocolate bombs are all the rage right now and as soon as I saw them all over my feed, I knew I had to test them out and bring you guys a DIY/review. Hot chocolate is my favorite type of drink during the holidays and having it all pop out of a chocolate ball really brings the holiday spirit lol.
Before I began my journey to making these, there were a few things I needed first:
–a half sphere mold
-lots of chocolate (For a classic hot chocolate bomb I recommend semi-sweet chocolate chips)
-Hot chocolate mix
-Sprinkles for decor
-White chocolate ships for a decorative drizzle
You want to melt your chocolate and you can do this one of two ways. Feel free to pick the one that sounds easiest to you:
1: You can put your chocolate chips in a microwaveable bowl and heat them in the microwave in 30 second intervals to be sure you are not burning your chocolate
2: You can put a small bowl over a pot of simmering water (be sure the water does not touch the bowl) and you place your chocolate in the bowl above the water and mix until perfectly melted.
I decided for my first try to just melt them in the microwave and I proceeded to coat the edges of the mold using the back of a spoon.
Once that was done, I set them in the fridge for about 3 minutes until solid and I pulled them out to add a second coat of chocolate and then I popped them back in the fridge to set. This should take less than 10 minutes but I like to keep them in there for a little while to make sure they get really solid.
Once they’re out you’re going to want to heat up a plate by running some hot water on it. Make sure you dry it off before using it, then carefully remove your chocolate pieces out of the mold and run the edges over the plate so they melt a bit. This will help clean up your edges and will be the same way we loosen up the edges to get them to stick together once they’re filled.
Now is the fun part! Fill your molds with your favorite hot chocolate( or strawberry mix is good too!) and don’t forget your marshmallows. Be sure to leave a mold for the top lid lol. You would be surprised how easy it is to forget you need tops lol.
Once they’re all filled. Run the tops on the warm plate and connect them together! You can then melt some chocolate to drizzle on top and add sprinkles as you please. It could be a fun activity for a family night in to decorate your own hot chocolate bomb.
And then they’re ready to enjoy!
I hope you guys enjoyed this DIY and after making a few, trust me they are so worth the effort to make. They are a bit sweet so if you enjoy something a little lighter I suggest making it a treat for two!
Hope you guys enjoyed & Happy Holidays!!
